WE CELEBRATE 30 YEARS
This year marks 30 years since Čestmír Kalaš began to build a brand that is recognized at the very top of the world peloton with his indomitable determination. Cycling has always been and remains everything to Čestmír Kalas. At the beginning of the 1990s, when the Tábor cycling team lacked financial support, he made a risky decision. Without any previous experience, he set up a factory to produce cycling clothing, from which some profits ensured the survival of the team. The company has maintained its family tradition to this day. It has over 200 employees and sells to more than 50 countries under the management of the son of Kalas Sportswear co-founder Petra Filipová, Josef Filip, and Mr. Kalas' grandson, Jakub Věncek.
Čestmír Kalas' original intention to start making clothes so that he could support young cycling talents in the early 1990s inspired us to follow up on his dedicated efforts 30 years later. That is why we have decided that on the 30th anniversary of our company, we will donate all sales from our e-shop, which will be made on December 3, 2021, to support youth cycling in the Czech Republic. If you buy any product on our e-shop on Friday, December 3, you will also contribute to the support of young Czech talent.
We have decided to support the following two projects:
VELO ACADEMY
Currently, the academy has 108 active children under the age of 12 from the Prague area. The young racers regularly participate in the Czech MTB Cup, the Czech Road Cup, and the Czech Cyclocross Cup. In the winter, their training activities move to the indoor track in Motol, where they diligently prepare for the spring and summer season. The Academy organizes suburban and residential camps and is currently building a training centre for XCO near Kladno (Traily Mayrau).
"We will mainly use the funds to purchase special track bikes with small frames, thus enabling a wider group of children to acquire basic cycling habits and skills." Martin Raufer - Head of Velo Academy
CTW JUNIOR CUP
A series of cyclocross races organised by a group of enthusiastic cyclists from September to December in South Bohemia, trying to provide the best possible conditions for young racers in a friendly atmosphere. Dozens of novice cyclists from 4 to 18 years old regularly take part in the races, improving their cyclocross skills and learning about racing cycling on challenging courses.
"We will use the financial support to make the children's races more popular and try to entice other budding athletes to discover the unique magic of cyclocross." Petr Zikmund - Director of the CTW Junior Cup.
